How to teach a foreign language to your children (from home)
Have you ever wondered how to teach a foreign language to your children, but you just don’t know where or how to start?
Today’s guest, Shannon, has a lot to say about this topic.
Shannon is the founder behind The Cultured Kid program, but she is most of all, a mother who was also very eager to teach foreign languages to her children, from home.
But I have to admit, and I say this knowing that I’m myself a French teacher, so teaching is what I do most of my days, as a parent, the concept of teaching is not always easy to grasp.
The questions most parents ask themselves when they want to embark on this language-learning journey with their children?
- I don’t have a teaching degree, how can I teach them a foreign language?
- I don’t speak the language, how can I ever keep up?
- How do they learn how to pronounce words?
- What methods are age-appropriate?
- How to balance fun and learning?
- Should we focus on speaking first, or introduce reading and writing simultaneously?
- How much time can we realistically dedicate each day?
- What resources and materials will we need?
- How do we maintain consistency in teaching?
And so many more!
Well, this is the topic I’m tackling with Shannon today, as she has the experience to actually provide us with precious guidance, but I also wanted to know more about her program and what it has to offer.
