Need help in learning French?
A platform that I can highly recommend would be LanguaTalk.com. There, you can find some very talented native tutors from France and Belgium. Prices depend on the tutor you choose and start from around 14 US dollars (or 12 euros). You can see tutors’ reviews and videos then book a 30-minute free trial session with them.

My favorite topics of discussion
I love to chat, and even more so when it comes to interesting topics! I have many favorite discussion topics, and today I’m going to share them with you. Please note that they are not in order of preference.
With loved ones
First, I’d like to tell you about the topics of discussion I have with my loved ones. When I say “close ones”, I mean my family and friends. With them, I really like to talk about current events and the latest news. Even if I like to talk about what’s happening in France or in the world, I avoid talking about topics that might upset people. I also like to talk about movies and series. Another of my favorite topics of discussion is cooking. And if it’s during the meal, it’s even better! Between family and even friends, I sometimes talk about my work (because I really like what I do!) and also about the French language. I can, from time to time, slip into a discussion a few words about a grammar or conjugation rule, especially if it is complicated!
With acquaintances
With acquaintances, we don’t talk about the same topics! It all depends on the relationship I have with the person I am talking to. Is it someone I work with? A neighbor? As a general rule, I will stick to positive topics. We’ll discuss the weather, then ask about family or relatives, or an acquaintance we have in common. I live in a tourist area, so I often talk about the high season (or the other way around).
With strangers
With strangers, I think we can all agree on this… “small talk” is the golden rule. It would not really occur to me to share certain things with strangers. When I say “strangers”, I mean people I meet in a waiting room or in the elevator. So I adapt to the situation. If I’m in a waiting room and someone talks to me, we’ll usually talk about why we’re waiting (for the appointment). In France, it’s easy to run into “grumblers”, so the discussions won’t always be positive!
